Chile: Poetry is the Heart of Literature

Poetry is a form of literary art in which language is used for its aesthetic and evocative qualities in addition to, or in lieu of, it’s apparent meaning. Poetry has been a part of every country’s literature. But admit it or not, there are some who almost forgot what poetry or a poem is. There are several reasons why some almost forgot poems… but I think, one of the reason is… they find poetry boring.

But for the Chileans, poetry is the heart of their literature. They are people who have big respect and admiration to poems. That is why their country is called país de poetas—country of poets. Their poems commonly talks about romance, nature, and politics. Some of their world-renown poets are Vicente Huidobro and Nicanor Parra (both are contenders for Nobel Prize in literature) and Jose Donoso, the author of novel The Obscene Bird of the Night which is considered by critic Harold Bloom to be one of the cononical works of Twentieth Century Western literature.

See?! Poems still live in people’s heart, though not everybody… at least there is.
